| Description | Steinway Model A188 Parlor Grand in mint condition Serial number 82029 Tricentennial Limited Edition Grand Piano In 2000, for the first time in Steinway & Sons’ history, a Model A-188 grand piano was released on the American market, previously available only in Hamburg, and for the first time, the Tricentennial was a joint production of the Steinway factories in Hamburg and New York. As a renowned designer, pianist and passionate Steinway fan, Dakota Jackson provided the best conditions for the creation of this special instrument. “For me,” says Jackson, “Steinway and grand pianos are synonymous. I wouldn’t have designed a grand piano for any other manufacturer. “Dakota Jackson was aware of the not-so-easy task of incorporating innovative elements in his design, but without disregarding the classic design of Steinway grand pianos. “Any change, no matter how simple, to the classic form would require people to rethink,” he said. “After all, the piano has been a cult symbol for three centuries. Therefore, changes are only appropriate where they improve the design and value of the instrument.” Thus, he began his design very simply, reducing the wing to the essentials: a wooden cabinet with a cast iron plate provided – he started from the base of the instrument, so to speak.
